For the person who doesn't quite sit and doesn't quite stand, the perch stool is an active solution at a standing-height desk. A short, sloped seat encourages a comfortable lean while the heavy, ivory-colored base pivots in all directions. The seat is height adjustable to suit all statures and features an auto return that keeps the seat facing forward when not in use. An included balance board has both a curved and flat side, making it a great footrest or a tool to maintain core strength. Please note that promotional offers do not apply to this product.

He Loves It!

This was a gift for my partner, a writer who does not like to sit while working. It's a perfect companion to the standing desk.

Maybe not perfect, but I am very happy to have an Active Perch

When I found this, I was really excited to find something almost perfect for my standing desk. I looked at the measurements, to be sure it was tall enough, as I am 6'3". The numbers said that it would meet me at full height. When it got here, I hadn't realized exactly how much of a bonus the extra balance board is. It really magnifies the micro-movement benefits of the stool.

But I first have to mention that the "pivoting column" with the "auto return" does not accurately describe the post column system. The base has a solid but flexible connection to the column that allow it to be leaned in all directions, with a generous range of motion. The amount of activity, that your lower body can be involved in while your torso remains in correct relation to a tall work space, makes for a very dynamic sitting/leaning/balancing combo. The feature should really be touted much more than it is.

What I didn't know about, nor could anyone really predict, how the center shock would react to my weight. It compresses to an inch lower than I really wanted, when I put my full weight on it, with my feet on the balance board. My knees bend more than I care to, and I don't feel I can put the right amount of weight on the board, while sitting. A person with a shorter inseam (mine's about 33") or a lighter build (225 lbs)

I will likely solve this by building a 3/4" - 1 1/2" pad to add to the base, allowing me to actually lower the post a bit. That should really set this chair to be "The One." For now, there has never been a chair to come this close to answering prayers.

I'd purchase again, especially if the base were made taller.

Real Perch Stool for active standing/leaning/sitting!

This fit my criteria in that it was height adjustable, able to tilt/wobble side-to-side and front-to-front, could twist/rotate and automatically return back to front facing position. It has a nice cushion (I chose the gray steel) and a small back that I can hang my coat and/or strap my shiatsu massage pillow around. My son who is 5 ft did not like since he has poor core strength and felt like he was going to constantly fall off the stool. I like it since it's exactly what I was looking for to go with my standing desk. I would get fatigued standing and wish I had something to lean or perch on occasionally, or sit for half and hour to hour, before going back to standing. I had already been using my own hard wobble board, but I like the soft but firm wobble cushion that came with the stool - they complement each other well and won't hurt my floor.

It was easy to assemble out of the box. Customer service was also quick and great when I asked for a price adjustment when my item price decreased while my item was being shipped to me. All in all, very happy with this purchase and glad I saved a lot of money (rather than getting the LeanRite Elite or Vari Active Seat).

Does the job

The seat is pretty uncomfortable, but I think that is by design. Basically I sit on the front lip of the chair and that can be pretty tiring because it’s pointy and hurts my tush.
